Silver Spring's "mayor" announces bid for Rockville mayor's seat
Susan Hoffman is current Silver Spring's manager of marketing as well as a Rockville City Councilmember

With eight months until November's election and three terms of Rockville City council experience under her belt, Susan R. Hoffmann announced her bid for Rockville mayor, a position held by incumbent Larry Giammo.

Hoffmann, a part-time Silver Spring manager of marketing and communications has said that she will keep her county job if elected mayor, which is also a part-time position.

In her job, Hoffman has been effective at promoting the initiatives of new businesses and bringing together networking business leaders in Silver Spring. She is well-known for her ability to create an enthusiastic "buzz" around new shops, restaurants and events coming on to the scene.

Hoffman has been particularly supportive of the arts community, and promises to continue that support if elected Rockville's mayor.

"The arts are a terrific economic development tool. For every $1 spent on the arts, $9 comes back to the community," Hoffmann said.

An added bonus: They "enrich one's soul, especially when young people are exposed."
